The enforcement effort was announced by the North Castle Police Department on Wednesday, Nov. 8, and was conducted to check trucks for " unsafe and dangerous violations" that can result in serious accidents or even death, police said.
In order to conduct the checks, the department teamed up with the New York State Police and the New York Department of Transportation. As part of the detail, authorities checked lighting, weights of vehicles, brakes, trailers, proper documentation, and more.
The checks resulted in the issuance of a total of 78 summonses on Wednesday, including six out-of-service violations, police announced.
"This is a continuing effort to keep all motorists safe as they travel our roads and highways," North Castle Police said in a social media post.
